HansaWorld SmartApps allows you to create your own database applications that you will be able to use on the Nokia E90. Information (both the database definitions and the data that they contain) will be stored in the HansaWorld SmartApps database on one computer. This is known as the "master" database, and the computer containing the master is known as the "server". The master database will be accessible by the other computers on the network (the "clients") and by your Nokia E90s. If the clients and E90s are connected to the master, they will access the information in the master database, and any modifications and additions will be saved directly in the master database. Copies of the master database will also be stored locally on each client and E90, so you will have full access to the information even when you are not connected to the master. Any modifications and additions will be saved locally. The next time you connect to the master using a client or E90, you will be able to synchronise the modifications and additions. Local changes will be uploaded to the master, and any changes in the master database will be downloaded to the client or E90.

This section describes configuring the master database. Follow these steps:

  1. After clicking the [Master Database] button in the window shown on the Starting HansaWorld SmartApps for the First Time page, a window will appear where you can specify a Master Password.

Choose and enter a Master Password, and click [Next].

When you use a client machine to log in to the master, you will be able to log in as an existing user, or you will be able to use a [New User] button to create a new user account in the master database. When you do this, you will be asked to enter the Master Password before you can create the new user account.

You can choose not to specify a Master Password at this stage, in which case you will have to log in as an existing user before creating new user accounts. If you do not specify a Master Password now, you will be able to specify one later if necessary: this is described on the Changing the Master Password page.

The process of creating a user account from a client computer is described in more detail on the Client page.

  2. A second window will appear, asking for your company name:

Enter your company name, then click the [Next] button.

  3. The 'Create New User' window will be opened. Here you can enter your personal details, to create a user account for yourself (or for any person that will use HansaWorld SmartApps: it does not need to be the person that will usually use the application on the server computer). You must enter your User Name, Full Name and Password before you can progress to the next step, but the other information is optional.

    User Name
Enter the name that you want to use as your log-in identity code each time you log in to HansaWorld SmartApps. You can enter up to ten characters, so you might use your initials or a short version of your name. Do not use spaces or special characters. The term "Signature" is sometimes used when referring to your User Name in the program and in this documentation.

    Full Name
    Enter your full name.

    Password, Confirm Password
Enter to both fields the password that you will use when logging in to HansaWorld SmartApps.

    Optional information
Enter your contact information in the appropriate fields.
When you have completed the 'Create New User' window, click the [Finish] button at the bottom of the window. Your user account will be created.

  4. The 'Login' window appears, with your User Name already entered as the Signature:

Enter your Password and click [OK].

  5. You will be asked if you want HansaWorld SmartApps to remember your Signature and Password, so that you do not have to enter them yourself each time you log in.

Bearing in mind that the Password is a security feature, it is recommended that you only click the [Yes] button if you are absolutely sure no-one other than yourself will have access to your computer. Whichever option you choose, you will be able to change it later if necessary.

  6. The Master Control panel will appear:

Having configured the master, click here to move on to configuring HansaWorld SmartApps on each client computer.
