Entering a Contact

To enter a new record in the Contact register, click [New] in the Button Bar or use the Ctrl-N (Windows) or ⌘-N (Mac OS X) keyboard shortcut. Alternatively, highlight a record similar to the one you want to enter and click [Duplicate] on the Button Bar.

The 'Contact: New' window will oepn, empty if you clicked [New] or containing a duplicate of the highlighted record. Complete the Contact record as appropriate, then save it using the [Save] button and close the window by clicking the close box. Then, close the browse window using the close box again.

Since the amount of information stored about each Contact will not fit in a single window, the 'Contact: New' and 'Contact: Inspect' windows are divided into eight cards. At the top of each card is the header. This contains basic information about the Contact such as the Contact Number, Customer Category, Short Code, Customer and Supplier check box, and Contact Name. There are eight named buttons ('tabs') in the header.

By clicking the tabs you can navigate between cards. The header is always visible, as a reminder of the Contact you are working with.

Entering company information in the Contact register often requires you to refer to settings in the Contact or System modules using 'Paste Special' (Ctrl-Enter or ⌘-Enter). Where use of 'Paste Special' is appropriate, this is indicated in the text together with the module in which the setting is to be found. Please click on the links for full details of a particular setting.
