Newsfeed and Blog Content (The Content Register) - Content Countries

You can divide news items and blog posts into countries. This will allow you to display them sorted by country in the newsfeed listing with the country names as sub-headings. You will also be able to restrict the listing so that browsers in a particular country will only see the news items and blog posts that are relevant for that country. This feature is only supported by the "Content Handler App" page, not by the "Content List" Element..

Follow these steps:

  1. If you have not already done so, enter the countries in the Countries on Web setting:

Please refer to step 2 on the Country Selection page for more details about the Countries on Web setting.

  2. Assign each record in the Content register to a country:

  3. If you need the newsfeed listing to be sorted by country with the countries as sub-headings, select the Group Lists by Country option in the Content Style record that is connected to the Content record:

The country headings will be displayed as <h1> headings. If you would like to assign a class to these headings, use the Country Header Class field.
This is the result in a browser:

The order in which the countries will be listed will be determined by the Sorting options in the Content Style record, as follows:
Newest First
The countries will be listed in reverse alphabetical order by Code.

Alphabetically
The countries will be listed in alphabetical order by Code.
Within each country, the news items will also be listed in the order determined by the Sorting options.

If you have not assigned a Content record to a country or you have not specified a Comment in the relevant Country on Web record, that Content record will appear under the heading "Other" in the newsfeed listing. "Other" is Web Text 25300.

If you need to restrict a newsfeed listing so that browsers in a particular country will only see the news items and blog posts that are relevant for that country, include the country in the link to the listing using the following format:

http://domainname/Content_Handler_App_Web_structure_name/Country_on_Web_Code
For example:
http://domainname/news/BE

This technique will be most useful if you are using "Redirect to Country Sub Page" Structure records to display different pages (including different templates and/or menus) depending on the country selected by the browser user. Please refer to steps 7-10 on the Country Selection page for details.

As you can only specify a single country in a Content record, you will need to duplicate it if you need it to be included in the newsfeed listings for more than one country.

Note that a URL that includes a country code is very similar to the URLs of the individual newsfeed item pages, which use the following format:

http://domainname/Content_Handler_App_Web_structure_name/Content_Code
To avoid conflicts, ensure that you use Codes in the Countries on Web setting that are not the same as the Codes in the Content register.
