Serial Number Text

This page describes the Serial Number Text setting in the Service Orders module.

Use the Serial Number Text setting to record comments and notes about individual Serial Numbered Items. You can enter a single record in this setting for each Item/Serial Number combination. The comments will be shown where appropriate in the Service Order Status report, obtainable from the Operations menu (Windows/macOS) or Tools menu (iOS/Android) in the Service Order window.

To work with the Serial Number Text setting, first ensure you are in the Service Orders module using the [Switch Module] button in the Navigation Centre. Then, if you are using Windows or macOS, click the [Settings] button in the Navigation Centre and then double-click 'Serial Number Text' in the resulting list. If you are using iOS or Android, select 'Settings' from the Tools menu (with 'wrench' icon) and then tap 'Serial Number Text' in the 'Settings' list. The 'Serial Number Texts: Browse' window opens, listing the records that you have already saved in this setting. Double-click or tap a record in the list to modify it, or select 'New' from the Create menu (Windows/macOS) or from the + menu (iOS/Android) to create a new record.

Paste Special    Serial Numbers of sold Items and of Repair Items (Known Serial Number register)
Specify the Serial Number for which you need to record comments.

If the Serial Number is one originally sold by your business, the Item Number will be brought in to the field below as soon as you specify the Serial Number.

You can only enter a single record in the Serial Number Text setting for a particular Serial Number/Item combination.

The 'Paste Special' list shows the contents of the Known Serial Number register. This contains Serial Numbers previously used in the Service Stock Transaction register and, optionally, Serial Numbers of Items originally sold by your company. Please refer here for details about the Known Serial Number register.

The Item Number of the Item. If the Item is one originally sold by your business, the Item Number will be brought in as soon as you specify the Serial Number in the field above.

Text
You can record up to thirteen lines of notes about an individual Serial Number.
Click [Save] (Windows/macOS) or tap √ (iOS/Android) to save changes.
