After Installation
The Hansa directory or folder contains a number of files:
Shown is the Windows 98 folder: its appearance on your computer and the number of files and folders may differ slightly according to the type of machine you are using, its operating system and certain other settings. In the illustration, for example, all file extensions are shown. Some or all of the following files should be present:
- The Hansa application, consisting of the program file "Hansa.exe" or "Hansa32" (Windows), "Hansa /PPC" (Macintosh OS9) or Hansa OSX (Macintosh OS X). In some circumstances, this file may be named "Server32".
- The "Hob" folder, containing language and other files. This must be present in the same folder or directory as the Hansa application. In some installations, there may be a "Hal" folder as well, used for the same purpose.
- The file "DBDef.txt", which is used by Hansa to import some basic settings data whenever a new database is created. This file must be present in the same directory as the program when a new database is created.
- The file "Default.txt", which is used by Hansa to import some basic settings data whenever a new Company is created. This file must be present in the same directory as the program when a new Company is created. Companies and databases are described here.
- The files "UKStd.TXT", which contains sample set-up data, "UKAccs1.TXT", which contains a sample Chart of Accounts, and UKForms.TXT, which contains templates for Invoices and other forms. If you wish to use these, follow the instructions on the Creating a New Company page first to create a new database and then import these settings. The name and precise make-up of these files will vary according to the country of use. In some installations, these files will be placed in a folder named "Setup".
- A back-up of an example database for training purposes ("DemoData2003.TXT"). It includes the Chart of Accounts and other settings that are also in the files described in the previous paragraph. To use the example database, follow the instructions on the Restoring from a Back-up page covering the creation of a new database and the importing of a back-up file. In some installations, this file will be placed in a folder named "Setup".
- An "Attach" folder, which must be present if you want to attach files to records. Such Attachments are fully described here. In multi-user installations, this folder should be on the server machine.
- A "Backup" folder to be used for storing daily back-up files.
- Two extra folders, "PS" and "Scripts", will be present in Linux installations.
The following folders should be present if you wish to use certain features, but otherwise need not be present:
- The "Halcust" folder contains bespoke (HAL) files (e.g. customised reports). This should be on the server and on all clients likely to use the bespoke files.
- In multi-user installations, the "Shared" folder should be on the server machine if you are using the FTP server facility. This will be used by default to store the files that are to be made available to the FTP clients. You can specify that a different folder is to be used for this purpose when you configure your FTP server: this is described here.
- The "Tmp" folder should be present if you will be using the HansaMail facility to send and receive external mail (i.e. to communicate with standard email programs outside your Hansa network). The Hansa External Gateway uses it to store mail attachments downloaded from the POP3 server before they are transferred to the "Attach" folder and attachments that are to be uploaded to the SMTP server. You should delete the contents of the "Tmp" folder periodically.
- The "Web" folder contains language and other files required if you wish to use Hansa's Web Shop. This folder should be on the server machine.
- The "Webcust" folder is used to store images used in the Web Shop (e.g. images of the Items that you sell). This folder should be on the server machine.
